CERTIFIED EXPERTISE - The European Board of Interventional Radiology

CIRSE is proud to announce that The European Board of Interventional Radiology has obtained UEMS-CESMA recognition after undergoing a thorough scrutiny process in March 2017. The examination has been running its successful course since 2010. To date, almost 500 interventional radiologists hold this coveted qualification, and the number is steadily increasing. Examinations are always fully booked long before they take place.

Why take the EBIR?

Built on the pillars of scientifically proven assessment techniques, high-quality material and a dedicated steering committee, the examination has asserted itself as the internationally valued IR qualification that it set out to be.

Career Development
EBIR holders improve their career development, whether they take the examination right at the beginning of their tenure or further down the road. Employers can expect not only firm knowledge of the contents of the European Curriculum and Syllabus of Interventional Radiology which serves as the comprehensive guideline for the exam, but also certain skill sets and additional valuable competencies confirmed by trainers or supervisors.

Free movement
Supplemental to any national qualifications, the EBIR also aims to facilitate the free movement of IRs across Europe and even globally.

Patient Safety
With patient safety being a central element of health care, the EBIR aims to promote current standards and to further enhance patient safety. It is crucial for candidates to be familiar with assessing and managing patients before, during and after the procedure, identifying and minimising complications and procedural risks as well as ensuring appropriate aftercare and follow-up.

Comprehensive Endorsement
The EBIR is organised with endorsement and under supervision of CIRSE (the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe), the ESR (European Society of Radiology) and the UEMS Interventional Radiology Division.
