Abstract
Image-guided injection is one the most essential procedures in the musculoskeletal system. Joints are one of the structures in which these procedures are most frequently performed. There are several indications, including corticosteroid, hyaluronic acid, and platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection in arthritis as adjunctive therapy or for pain relief, and contrast injection in MR or CT arthrography.
Image-guided techniques are more accurate than blind injection; thus, image guidance should always be used. Ultrasound is the best technique to guide joint injections in all the joints of the appendicular skeleton, but CT or fluoroscopy can be the technique of choice in some difficult locations. The technique is safe, and technical success should be achieved in all the cases. Contraindications include those related only to the substance injected
The course includes instructions for specific access to knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, ankle, carpal, fingers, foot, sacroiliac joints, facet joints, and spine.

This course covers a basic level of IR knowledge and is designed for trainees, students or young consultants aiming to acquire essential knowledge or prepare for the EBIR exam. Thereby, it is tailored to the European Curriculum and Syllabus for IR and corresponds to chapter 2.2.4.3. Intra-articular injection under image guidance.

The course duration is around one and a half hours and is accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to award 1.5 European CME credits (ECMEC).
