Abstract
The purpose of this module is to introduce IRs to basic and advanced techniques for adequate management of pelvicalyceal and ureteric obstruction with a specific focus on nephrostomy and stent insertion. Anatomical and pathophysiological aspects are covered as well as indications and contraindications. We then cover the most relevant technical aspects of nephrostomy insertion, anterograde stent insertion for native bladder, and urinary diversions. Rendezvous procedures, ureteral stricture intervention and renal stone disease are also less extensively discussed, mostly with pictorial cases. We discuss materials and devices, focusing especially on those used in nephrostomy and ureteral stent insertion.
