Thyroid nodules are quite prevalent in the general populace. They are typically symptom-free, benign, and most often can be monitored with regular observation. Occasionally, nodules may increase in size and produce symptoms, necessitating treatment. Currently, minimally invasive, image-guided treatments such as thermal ablation with radiofrequency ablation (RFA), percutaneous laser ablation (LA), or percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) have been shown to be effective and safe, offering a viable alternative to surgery.
This course will cover the basic anatomy of the thyroid, the pathophysiology behind the formation of benign thyroid nodules, and review the most commonly used minimally invasive treatments, including their indications and techniques. Extensive hands-on workshops on different methods, including laser, radiofrequency, and microwave, will allow participants to work with current devices and learn about the latest advancements in thyroid ablation technology.

Please note that this course is open only to interventional radiologists who have completed their radiology training. To further multidisciplinary team building, endocrinologists may attend this course together with an interventional radiologist from the same hospital under the registration type “Team Fee.”

Interventional radiologists attending the course may bring with them an endocrinology colleague from the same hospital with whom they work together in a multidisciplinary team. These two physicians will then be able to attend the ESIR course under the “team fee”. - To attend the ESIR courses as a member, CIRSE membership fee for the year of the course must be settled.
