CIRSE 2025: Submit your abstract to the IR congress of the year!

March 11, 2025

CIRSE 2025 will take place in Barcelona, Spain from September 13-17. As the world’s premier platform for IR research and knowledge exchange, the CIRSE Annual Congress represents the very best opportunity to share your work with your colleagues on an international stage.

Time is running short – abstract submission for CIRSE 2025 will end on March 20, 2025. Don’t miss this chance to share your work!

An international platform with maximum impact

CIRSE’s membership has nearly doubled over the last ten years. Abstract submission and congress attendance have been reflective both of this, and of the innovative speed at which IR moves. Interventionalists wishing to share their work with their colleagues will find no platform more impactful than the CIRSE podium!

“CIRSE is the greatest IR conference and platform in Europe.” Says Dr. Mostafa Fouad, who was the first author on last year’s best-rated abstract. “It enabled us to present our work to the widest and largest world-wide audience including not only IRs, but also other specialities and undergraduates.”

Of the impact of presenting at the congress, most-viewed CIRSE 2024 poster author Dr. Shinichi Hori says “Close friends from various countries congratulated me, and I felt genuinely happy. While continuing breast cancer treatment, I realized the need to strive for even better outcomes. Many breast cancer patients undergoing treatment were also very pleased with the recognition, finding meaning in continuing their treatment…  I am eager to submit an abstract to CIRSE 2025.”

“The response was overwhelming for me.” says Prof. Ulf Teichgräber, who presented the most-watched scientific paper presentation at CIRSE 2024. “American and Asian colleagues in particular were very interested in the first insights into the SIRONA trial.”

Dr. Jacques Aimé Bazeboso Bangudi, who in 2024 was the first person from the DR Congo to submit an abstract to CIRSE, told us “ We greatly benefited from CIRSE’s global reach. Thanks to our presentation showing that we have started such a specialized discipline with simple means in the DR Congo, this opened up opportunities to advance IR in the DR Congo, both in terms of training and equipment acquisition. Secondly, we were able to provide information on the reality of IR in the DR Congo. We’re just starting out, and we’re trying to help the first patients in need in certain emergency situations, in particular, post-partum haemorrhage. This international feedback has put to rest any apprehension anyone had of recognizing IR as a discipline in it’s own right in the Congo.”

Abstract types

CIRSE accepts submissions of scientific abstracts, FIRST@CIRSE clinical trial abstracts, educational abstracts, case reports, and trial design and methodology abstracts. New this year, CIRSE 2025 also has abstract categories for IVUS cases and SPHAIRE, CIRSE’s platform for artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in interventional radiology. (Click here for full information on all accepted abstract topics and types as well as the corresponding requirements).

“I knew presenting my research at CIRSE would allow me to receive world-class opinions about my project and how to direct my future research.” says Dr. Drew Richardson, who submitted an abstract in 2023. “[My advice is to] ask interesting questions. Once you have a question that you and others will want to know, the work becomes fun. Also, realize that people don’t always get abstracts accepted and that’s okay … Make sure to be aware of the submission guidelines, as your abstract will need to be concise to effectively convey your findings!

CIRSE offers a platform for practitioners at all levels of their careers. Alongside abstracts on cutting-edge research and trials, CIRSE also welcomes educational and case report abstracts to be presented as electronic posters.

Successful case report submitter Dr. Poorvi Malik told us, “The CIRSE Annual Congress is one of the most prestigious interventional radiology conferences in the world, with an array of multiple hands-on workshops to basic courses with experts in their field covering nearly all aspects of interventions. This motivated me to submit an abstract and attend the conference in person. While submitting a case report, make sure the selected case is distinctive in some aspect, for e.g. a new technique/approach, use of devices, etc. Always mention a clear and structured approach to your case, for easier understanding and better representation.”

Opportunities for young IRs

Trainees and students should not shy away from submitting an abstract!

With the IR Trainee Support Programme, CIRSE Junior members who have submitted an abstract for CIRSE 2025 as a first or presenting author and have submitted their application to the Trainee Support Programme can attend CIRSE 2025 free of charge.

Students attending the congress for the 16th edition of the CIRSE Student Programme can also submit their abstracts for a chance to present their work on stage. Six students whose abstracts are accepted will be invited to present their work to their peers at the “Students on stage” session.

Gain recognition for your work

Beyond the opportunity to present your work on stage or via an electronic poster, all accepted abstracts for CIRSE 2025 will be published in a the longest-running journal in the field of vascular and interventional radiology.

Electronic posters will be considered for the Poster Awards, which are selected by the CIRSE Scientific Programme Committee in advance of the meeting. All poster award winners will receive a certificate, an invitation to submit a manuscript to CVIR, and will be published on CIRSE’s social media. Additionally, the poster receiving the Magna Cum Laude award will receive free registration for an upcoming CIRSE congress and the opportunity to participate in an interview for CIRSE Insider.

After the congress, one winner will be selected for the Best Scientific Paper Award as chosen by CIRSE 2025 congress attendees and the Scientific Programme Committee. The winner will be invited to submit a manuscript to CVIR, receive free registration for a CIRSE 2025 or 2025 congress of their choice, and be interviewed for CIRSE Insider.
